Wrinkle relaxers, like Botox, remain among the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic treatments worldwide for good reason. Not only can they soften fine lines and wrinkles—they can even prevent them from forming in the first place.
At Bloom Aesthetics by Coastal Carolina Internal Medicine P.A., we offer 2 brands of wrinkle relaxers: Xeomin and Botox.
Near Swansboro, NC, many patients have some questions about these formulas, and we’re happy to provide clear answers.
How Do Wrinkle Relaxers Work?
Before we talk about how wrinkle relaxers work, let’s talk about how wrinkles even form in the first place.
Wrinkles form from two things: facial movement and a loss of collagen. Botox targets the first factor. When you smile, frown, squint, or furrow your brow, you’re contracting your facial muscles and causing the overlying skin to fold and crease repeatedly with each expression.
For a while, those wrinkles only appear with movement. However, over time, your wrinkles and fine lines deepen, leaving behind marks even when your face is at rest.
Botox uses a purified form of botulinum toxin to relax your facial muscles and prevent them from contracting. With a newfound lack of movement, your skin settles into a more even-leveled position.
→ To target collagen loss, we recommend pairing Botox injections with Exion.
What Is the Difference Between Botox and Xeomin?
Botox and Xeomin have the same chemical makeup, only Xeomin doesn’t contain additional additives or proteins, making it a more purified form of botulinum toxin than Botox. Near Swansboro, NC, we may recommend Xeomin if you have an allergy to any specific added ingredients in Botox.
Will I Look Frozen?
We are trying to prevent wrinkles, not expressions. Therefore, we take a thoughtful, personalized approach to wrinkle relaxers, making sure to reduce facial movement, not fully restrict it. We do this by starting with smaller dosages, and administering them with precision to target the correct facial muscles. When you trust our team at Bloom Aesthetics by Coastal Carolina Internal Medicine P.A., you will receive natural-looking, subtle enhancements.
How Long Do Results Last?
Both Botox and Xeomin last for 3 to 4 months, after which you’ll need to come back and receive another round of injections if you’d like to see continued results.
You can also take this as an opportunity to try our other aesthetic facial services like Hydrafacial and Emface to improve skin tone and texture.
You could also boost your health and schedule your annual women’s or men’s health appointment, or even use this opportunity to stay updated on your vaccinations and support your body’s immunity!

Express Joy, Wrinkle-Free
Once your results begin revealing themselves after your Botox appointment, you’ll be able to smile and express joy all without the wrinkles. To get started, try our treatment planning tool or request a consultation.
